Tomas is a product of the illustrious Real Madrid Academy, having joined the club as a 12-year-old in 2001.
He featured heavily for Real's B team, but made just one senior appearance for the club before joining Boro in early 2014. His debut came in a 1-0 defeat at Sheffield Wednesday, but that proved to be his only appearance that season due to a dislocated finger.
Tomas signed a two-year contract with the club that summer, but after starting the campaign as first choice goalkeeper, he was displaced by Dimi Konstantopoulos and his appearances were restricted to cup matches - the Spaniard was in goal and performed admirably during our memorable FA Cup victory over Premier League Champions Manchester City in January 2015.
It was the same story in 2015/16 with Tomas featuring in cup football, and he saved penalties from Ashley Young and Wayne Rooney during our sensational spot-kick victory at Old Trafford in the Capital One Cup.
In January 2016, Tomas joined Rayo Vallecano on a six-month loan.
He made just one appearance for us in the 2017/18 season, playing as an over-age player for the U23s in a Checkatrade Trophy defeat at Blackpool in November.
Tomas rejoined the club in July 2019 after a single season in Cyprus, where he featured 28 times for Omonia Nicosia in the top flight.
Our first summer arrival under Jonathan Woodgate, he is a familiar face to both the head coach, his one-time captain at Boro, and Leo Percovich who was goalkeeping coach during Mejias’ first stint with the club.
